Abstract

In this study, we develop a mediating model and examine the relationships among regulatory focus, corporate social responsibility, and firm performance in the Chinese context. Built upon the Regulatory Focus Theory, our model suggests that corporate leaders with different regulatory focus, prevention or promotion, bring about different influences to firm performance through corporate social responsibility. More specifically, our results show that corporate social responsibility is positively affected by corporate leaders with a promotion focus, but negatively affected by those with a prevention focus. The results of regression analyses indicate that our hypotheses are all supported. Implications and limitations are discussed.
